UNCERTAIN EAST. Circa 2nd-1st centuries BC (?). AE (Bronze, 14 mm, 1.91 g, 12 h). Amphora. Rev. Branch. Apparently unpublished. Very fine.


The design of this unusual piece is reminiscent of certain Roman lead tesserae (e.g., Bertolami E-Auction 73 (2019), 1868 and Bertolami E-Auction 83 (2020), 892), although crafted in bronze. We believe it may originate from the Levant; however, in the absence of an inscription, this remains speculative.
